What are Dynamic QR Codes, and Why Does it Matter?

When you create any type of QR Code it basically embeds that information in the dots of the QR Code and then a mobile device scans that code and takes you to the information. If you use a URL to any of the information online then it provides that link to your device.

Once created you cannot change the information imbedded in the QR Code. A dynamic QR Code encodes a data base url in the qr code and then links your URL to that data base. Dynamic QR Codes can only be use with URLs.

This is all done in the campaign manager shown above and allows you to self manage your dynamic QR Codes. We call it a campaign as you can change the destination many times.

How to Create Your Dynamic QR Code

Go to the Dynamic QR Code Generator

A dynamic QR Code is a subscription based system which allows you to create your QR Code then change it any number of times you want. We create various packages to help you manage your system.

Choose Mobile Website Or Smartphone App.

Once setup you can then choose weather you want to create a link to a web page or if promoting an app choose smartphone app. Simply click on the form field to choose.

Enter A title for your QR Code

This is what your QR Code will show up in the Analytics so is good to choose a unique title so you can access the statistics quickly.

Add Your URL or App URLs

In this section you add the URL for the destination you want the visitor to be taken too. Sometimes this can be quite long however because it is compiled with the data base URL it will never get to dense like a static QR Code.

Add Media Used eg Website, eBook etc

In this section simply add where you will use it and again use a unique description for later retrieval of stats.

Use UTM for additional tracking and Choose Continue

UTM is a google function for getting even more statistics. We personally like to click on the UTM link and create the finished URL and then copy and  paste in the URL section. Alternatively if you understand UTMS you can use the fields instead. Once completed scroll down and Click Continue.

Choose Colours, Background and Size and default or shorten URL and add logo if required

In this section you can decorate your QR Code with 4 different styles, colours size and logo. If you are doing this for a customer I like to do any colours and logo etc in a separate graphics program as one generated in the platform you cant change them.

See Videos here.

Choose Generate and download SVG, EPS for printing and PNG or PDF for digital marketing

Once you have generated your QR Code you can choose to download in any or all of the 4 formats.

Go to preferences for other options.

You can do some other functions like redirect after a certain period of time or number of scans and turn on email notifications.

To Change URL and Keep QR Code

Once you have created your Dynamic QR Code you can now come back at any time and simply add a new url and choose a new title and media to distinguish from the previous one and then click edit and it will change the scan immediately. No need to regenerate the QR Code.

The beauty of it all is you can track how many scans, devices etc and if you use UTM URL get additional stats.

# Tips and Reminders for Dynamic QR Codes

Remember that the Dynamic QR Code image does not change but the destination does and this is where the power is.

Example: You create a brochure for your business and direct people to your home page with the QR Code. Next month you are holding a conference so now you change the destination to the registration form. Once the conference is running you change the URL to the YouTube channel to see the video replays. Now that its over you redirect to the free downloads and follow up info and after a week you revert to homepage.
