Why Dynamic QR Codes Are Essential for Shopping Centres

As a former Australian shopping centre manager, I understand the importance of effective marketing and the need for reliable metrics. During my travels, I’ve noticed that many shopping centres, strip malls, and even individual shops still rely on static QR codes.

The problem? Without dynamic QR codes, businesses have no way of tracking how their promotions or campaigns are performing.

Check out this video from a recent promotion in Singapore—it’s a great example of how QR Codes can be used creatively. It might just spark some fresh ideas on how Australian shopping centres can take advantage of QR Codes to boost engagement and track campaign performance.

What is the Difference between Static and Dynamic QR Codes?

A QR Code—short for “Quick Response”—is a fast, efficient way to connect customers to digital content.

QR Codes come in two types:
1. Static QR Code Generator – Free to use, non-editable once created
2. Dynamic QR Codes – Editable, trackable, and come with a database fee

static vs dynamic QR Codes

Based in Brisbane, we provide both static and dynamic QR code solutions, hosted on secure Australian servers, tailored specifically for shopping centres.

QR Codes for shopping centres can link to a variety of information—used by shopping centres, malls, strip malls, and individual retailers worldwide. Shopping centres especially love dynamic QR codes for their ease of management. Not only can they monitor basic stats via the platform, but they can also dive deeper into analytics through tools like Google Analytics.

With QR codes, shopping centres seamlessly integrate physical marketing with digital content, enhancing customer engagement.

How to Best Use Static QR Codes for Australian Shopping Centres?

As mentioned before static QR Codes cannot be changed once created so have a limited shelf life however you can improve with a little foresight.

As a retail manager, you need stats on your marketing and while dynamic QR Codes do this very well you can also use static codes by using the google analytic UTM tracking system. This makes a very long url and a very dense QR Code however you can compensate by getting the URL shortened by programs like Bitly or tiny url.

They can basically only be used for one promotion however free is an attractive. Use our Free Static QR Code Generator Here.

How to Maximise use of Dynamic QR Codes For Australian Shopping Centres?

Dynamic QR Codes are always linked to URLs, and the best part is that their destination can be changed at any time. This makes them ideal for print materials—use them over and over without having to reprint!

For example, you could link to an upcoming event, then update the link after the event to direct users to video highlights, encouraging likes and comments. Later, you can change it to your homepage, then back to your Facebook page—all while collecting valuable data on scans and engagement.

Everything is fully self-managed via our grey-label online software, giving you complete control. There’s no need to send traffic back to us—you can use it as your own.

The added benefit of Dynamic QR Codes is their small, consistent database URL, which means the QR code always remains low-density and easy to scan—perfect for any application.

How to Get Your Dynamic QR Codes for Free?

The best part of our program is that we offer Dynamic QR Codes for Australian shopping centres through a fully customisable platform. This allows you to sell QR codes directly to your clients while providing them with their own management tools.

When you purchase QR codes for your shopping centre, you can assign sub-users who can log in and manage their own codes. You simply charge them a fee. For example, purchase a package of 50 QR codes, sell 45 to your clients, and you’ll make a profit—plus keep 5 for your own use, free of charge.

There’s no link back to us, ensuring you retain complete control over the process.

How to use QR Codes for Australian Shopping Centres in Promotions?

Using QR Codes for Shopping Centres is a way for you to tap into the use of emerging technologies. Not only are they beneficial for shopping centres, but they also bring ease and convenience for shopping centre customers.

The process of using QR Codes is effortless — and can only take less than 5 minutes. All your customers have to do is take out their smartphones (or any device with a QR Code reader) and scan away.

Here is the outline of the whole campaign for the introduction video.

Background: More than 100 shopping malls were competing for attention during the GSS, which took place from 31 May to 28 July. Vivocity needed an engaging campaign to stand out and grow its social-media reach.

Aim: Vivocity wanted to drive foot traffic into tenant shops, expand the mall’s Facebook fan base, and use QR codes in an engaging, memorable and rewarding way.

Execution: VivoCity worked with Dog Digital to create a campaign devised around “The VivoCity Codeys”. A family of four life-size QR code mascots, dressed in VivoCity’s corporate colours, roamed the mall on weekends during the month of June, when the GSS was at its peak.

Shoppers could scan the codes for instant rewards including discount vouchers, daily prize draws, and entry to a grand prize draw at the end of the GSS. Users were invited to ‘Like’ the VivoCity Facebook page after scanning. They could also double their chance to win if they shared the grand draw on their Facebook wall.

Results: The campaign drew 8,618 people to scan the QR codes. The instant reward vouchers drove foot traffic to participating tenant shops, with 302 vouchers being collected. A total of 848 people entered the grand draw. The fan base of the VivoCity Facebook page increased 73 per cent, from 6,039 to 10,439.
